Fine Sovereign

In 1550 a large version of the sovereign, known as the Fine Sovereign, was struck and valued at thirty shillings. The issue continued until 1600, during the reign of Elizabeth I. The fine sovereigns are magnificent coins, but are all quite rare and valuable. Coincraft lists VF specimens at £5000.

Rose-Ryal or Two-Ryal

A very rare series struck by James I between 1604 and 1625. There are three main designs, the early small shield, and the later large shield with two minor obverse differences. The early rose-ryals were revalued at 33 shillings in 1612, while those of the third coinage issued between 1619 and 1625 reverted to 30 shillings.

Help and Advice

I would be grateful if you could search the site carefully before mailing me - the answers to the great majority of the questions that I am asked can be found on this site, and I am unlikely to reply quickly to such questions. In particular, I do NOT provide a valuation service.

If you have done this and still wish to ask for advice, feel free to mail me via my Advice page but please do not send me unsolicited scans or other binary files.
